CDS "Gen Bipin Rawat"  CDS "Gen Bipin Rawat" CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC is a four star general of the Indian Army. He is currently serving as the Chief of Defence Staff of India. On 30 Dec 2019, he was appointed as the first (CDS) Chief of Defence Staff of India. Prior to CDS, he served as the 27th Chief of Army Staff as well as he was the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. Early Life and Education  General Bipin Rawat was born on 16 March 1958 in pauri, Uttarakhand. He belonged to a Hindu Garhwali Rajput family. His family had been serving inthe Indian Army for several generations, and his father Laxman Singh Rawat was also an army officer and got retired at the rank of Lieutenant General. The Headquarters are located in  Bengaluru Cantonment, Bengaluru. The 50th Indian Parachute Brigade was formed on 27th Oct 1941, which a combination of the British 151st Parachute Battalion, the British Indian Army 152nd Indian Parachute Battalion , and the 153rd Gurkha Parachute Battalion. It was established in 1932 under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Philip Chetwode. The first batch 40 male cadets in 1932, IMA now has sanctioned capacity of 1650 gentlemen cadets. The Cadets undergo a training course varying between 3 and 16 months depending upon the entry criteria. Thereafter, other three gallantry awards i.e. the Ashoka Chakra Class-I, the Ashoka Chakra Class-II and the Ashoka Chakra Class-III were instituted by the Government of India on 4th January, 1952, which were deemed to have effect from the 15th August, 1947.
