What Is COAS
The Head of the Military Staff of India is a title which is held by the CEO, a four-star proficient head, and the most elevated positioning leader of the Indian Armed forces. The position is truncated as COAS in the Indian Armed Forces and is constantly held by a full Broad. As the most senior official to serve in the Indian Armed Forces, the Head of the Military Staff is a tactical consultant to the Public Authority of the Republic of India and the Service of Protection.
Current Army Chief
The ongoing COAS is General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who got down to business on 31 December 2019.
General Manoj Mukund Naravane (conceived 22 April 1960) PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC is a four-star general of the Indian Armed Force and the 28th Head of the Military Staff (COAS). He took over from General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019 after the last option finished his term as the COAS. Before his arrangement as the COAS, the general filled in as the 40th Bad Habit Head of Armed Force Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Armed Forces, General Official Telling in-Boss (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Order and General Official Directing in-Head of Armed Force Preparing Order.Early Life And
Education
Naravane hails from a Marathi Brahmin family. His dad, Mukund Naravane, is a previous official in the Indian Flying corps who resigned in the position of Wing Leader and his mom Sudha was a broadcaster with the All India Radio. He finished his tutoring at the Jnana Prabodhini Prashala in Pune.
Naravane is a former student of Public Protection Institute, Pune and Indian Military Foundation, Dehradun. He likewise holds a graduate degree in Safeguard Studies from College of Madras, Chennai and a M.Phil. in Guard and The executives Studies from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Naravane has gone to the Protection Administrations Staff School, Wellington and the Military Conflict School, Mhow.
Career
Naravane was commissioned into 7th battalion The Sikh Light Infantry in June 1980.
He has commanded:-
- the second Force (SikhLi) of Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the 106 Infantry detachment.
- the Assam Rifles as Controller General (North) in Kohima, Nagaland.
- served in Counter-rebellion tasks in Jammu and Kashmir and Upper east India, as well as the Indian Harmony Keeping Power in Sri Lanka during Activity Pawan.
His staff assignments include tenures as:-
- Detachment Major of an Infantry Unit
- Collaborator Auxiliary and Officer General (AA&QMG) of Central command Foundation No. 22.
- Military attaché to Myanmar at Yangon.
- Served in an educational arrangement at the Military Conflict School, Mhow as Coordinating Staff in the Higher Order Wing
- Two residencies at the Coordinated Guard Staff Central command of Service of Protection, New Delhi.

On promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General
- he instructed the Ambala-based Kharga Strike Corps and filled in as the General Official Telling (GOC) Delhi Region
- As GOC Delhi Region, he told the 2017 Republic Day March.
After being promoted to Army Commander grade
- Naravane served as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Army Training Command from 1 December 2017 to 30 September 2018.
- He also served as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command from 1 October 2018 to 31 August 2019, succeeding Lt Gen Abhay Krishna.
- On 1 September 2019, he was appointed Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) when Lt Gen Devraj Anbu retired on 31 August.
- On 16 December 2019 (Vijay Diwas eve) he was announced as the successor of General Rawat, who will relinquish the office of COAS on 31 December 2019.
General Naravane is the 3rd officer from the Sikh Light Infantry to become Chief of the Army Staff , the other officers from this regiment were
- The 19th COAS General Ved Prakash Malik and
- The 25th COAS General Bikram Singh.
Honours and decorations
During his career, he has been awarded the
- Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019)
- Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017)
- Sena Medal
- Vishist Seva Medal (2015)
- the CoAS commendation card for his service.
He is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the Sikh Light Infantry, he took over this honour from previous colonel of the Regiment Lt Gen Devraj Anbu post his retirement.
